British Council and Scottish Documentary Institute in partnership with Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology conducted Karachi Stories - A Documentary Film Masterclass from 5-12 September 2014 held in Karachi, Pakistan. Exclusive media partner was Radio1FM91.

Karachi Stories – A Documentary Film Masterclass is an initiative of the British Council and Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI), in partnership with the Department of Media Sciences, SZABIST. The masterclass brought together local filmmakers for an intensive eight days of documentary filmmaking in groups, based on a series of creative documentary workshop programmes delivered by SDI in partnership with British Council over the last few years, aimed at developing documentaries with human stories, reflecting a specific place and time but which have the ability to engage international audiences.

Professor Noe Mendelle, Director of Scottish Documentary Institute, Film & TV, facilitated the participants in groups of four to produce short documentaries which were then screened at a public event at SZABIST. The course explored in depth all elements of documentary projects including choosing subjects/themes and building narratives, methods and treatments, point of views and contexts, production strategies, use of equipment, potential issues, editing, funding and financing, and exhibiting.
