British Council in partnership with Graeae Theatre conducted an Inclusive Theatre workshop for teachers and students of Ida Rieu School for the Deaf and Blind, JS Academy for the Deaf and Deaf Reach Schools and Training Centres, mainstream theatre practitioners and enthusiasts.  The workshop focused on raising awareness of particular techniques of theatre-making with performers and audiences with disabilities.

This workshop will lead to an intensive two-week rehearsal and presentation of Ted Hughes’ “The Iron Man” produced and performed by people with disabilities, later in the year.  Our goal is to use this performance as a springboard for our agenda for mainstreaming people with disabilities and the development of a curricular module and requisite teacher training for teaching performing arts and all its affiliate disciplines such as script development, costume and set design to students at each of the schools involved.
