What is myEnglish?

myEnglish combines live online classes with activity-based learning. It helps improve your English communication skills and confidence for everyday situations.

Whatever your English level, a myEnglish course includes three modules. Each module focuses on different topics and skills relevant to your level.

How do I sign up for a course?

  1. Click on Get Started  and take your online level check.
  2. Once you receive your level, you can choose a course and a start date and time from the options available.
  3. Add the course to your shopping basket and fill out the billing details. You will then proceed to checkout with a payment method of your choice.

What is an Online Level Check?

The Online Level Check is quick check of your English language level against the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). It comprises 30 multiple choice questions, which you have up to 30 minutes to answer. Each question comprises two parts: part A is the actual question and part B tells us how sure you are about the answer. You must complete both parts to move onto the next question. Once you complete the test, you will be able to see your English level and the course options available to you based on your level. 

What is the difference between a course and a module?

myEnglish is available as three courses of 50 hours each over 6 weeks. Each course is called a module. The differences between the modules are topics that are covered in each module. Once you get to the course selection page after taking the Online Level Check, you will be able to see a description of each module and select the module you prefer. You can take one or multiple modules in any order. If you complete all three modules, your English proficiency will move up one level on the CEFR scale. For example, if you are at Pre-Intermediate level, and you complete all three modules, you will become Intermediate upon completing the modules.  

Before signing up for your course, please remember:

  • myEnglish is for those who are 18 years of age or above
  • to make sure you take the online level check yourself so that we can match you to the correct level 
  • to complete the enrolment using the learner’s name and email ID
  • an enrolment is valid for one student at a time. To enrol multiple learners, complete an individual booking for each person.

You study through a combination of Live Online Classes and Online Activities. The course runs over 6 weeks.

Modules

Each level has three modules which focus on different topics such as travel, shopping, health, food and many more.

Each module runs over 6 weeks. You can register for any of the three courses/modules based on your personal preference.

To learn most effectively, study all the courses in a level to complete that level. You can then move onto the next level.

What is the live class experience?

The live class takes place with your teacher and classmates over Zoom. You experience the British Council classroom from the comfort of your home, logging in from your computer. Everyone in the class must turn on cameras and use their mics to interact with each other. The teacher ensures that the class is very interactive and uses breakout rooms for pair and group work. You get to practice and interact with each other, build your confidence and fluency and get feedback. You can ask the teacher questions and get personalised feedback.

Maximum class size:

Please note that the maximum size for our online classes is 20 students.

Levels

This course is taught at three levels which are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR):

  • Pre-intermediate (A2) - At this level you will be able to manage everyday situations such as shopping and travel and make general conversation.
  • Intermediate (B1) - At this level you will be able to handle discussions on a variety of topics of general interest such as money, health, and food.
  • Upper-intermediate (B2) - At this level you will be able to communicate confidently and extensively in a wide range of situations.

We will recommend a course level for you based on your current English proficiency.

Online payments

You can pay online using a credit or debit card.

Please note that international transactions will have to be enabled for your card for your payment to be processed. There are no additional charges for these international payments from our end.

What will we not do?

Sometimes, it is not possible to offer a place for the student because they do not meet our entry requirements (e.g. literacy skills do not correspond with what is needed for students undertaking that level of study). In some cases, we may not accept a student in our course because we are not able to provide consistent and sustainable support. The decision to not allow a student to register (or continue) is not made lightly and is based upon a consideration of all factors related to the individual case. The outcome is at the discretion of the centre’s Academic Manager.
