The British Council Libraries are commemorating International Youth Day (12 August) and World Photography Day (19 August) with a special event—a photography competition exclusively for college/university students aged 18 and above. This competition centers around the theme "Your city through your lens”, encouraging college students to embark on a visual journey through the vibrant city. Participants are invited to capture compelling images that epitomise the essence and uniqueness of the city, showcasing its characteristic charm and spirit through the lens of photography.

Details of the competition:

  • Main theme: Pakistan through your lens
  • Eligibility - The contest is open to all college/university students aged 18 and above in Pakistan
  • Participants are to submit their entries between 3 and 10 August (both days inclusive).
  • Participants can submit a maximum of 3 entries with a note on what each photo signifies to them.
  • While submitting the photograph, participants must enclose the submission form and consent form as well. 

Important dates:

  • Registration - It is mandatory to register before you submit your entries
  • Submission Dates: 3 August - 10 August 2024
  • For Karachi only: On 12 August, during the International Youth Day all the photograph entries will be displayed in the library.
  • For Lahore only: On 13 August, all the photograph entries will be displayed in the library.
  • Winner announcement – 19th August during the World Photography Day.

Terms and conditions of the competition:

  • Prior registration is mandatory. 
  • The photograph must be in its original state and cannot be altered in any way, including but not limited to removing, adding, reversing, or distorting subjects within the frame or adding filters.
  • The contest is open for hard-copy submissions only. Online submissions will not be considered.
  • The photograph submitted by the participant shall be devoid of any copyrighted images.
  • Entries will be judged by the British Council. All decisions are final. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.
  • Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.
  • The prize must be collected by the winner and is non-transferable.
  • The winner will be contacted via the email address provided during entry. If no response is received after 3 business days, a new winner will be selected and the previous winner will forfeit all rights to the prize.         

Submission guidelines after registration:

  • Only hard-copy photographs will be accepted.
  • The photograph should be of size 5X7 inches, 8x8 inches or 10X12 inches.
  • The photograph can be in colour(s), monochromatic, or black/white.
  • The photograph to be submitted must be accompanied by the submission form and Consent form. Entries without the submission form will be disqualified. Envelop should be named as “British Council Photography Competition”.
  • The British Council will not cover any printing, posting, or any other costs for the participants
