Join the British Council libraries for a unique culinary adventure and celebrate World Food Day! We are delighted to invite you to participate in "Global Bites: A Culinary Journey", a digital challenge designed to showcase the incredible diversity of local cuisines and explore their rich history and cultural significance.
What's the challenge?
We invite you to create a short, engaging food vlog (video blog) – not exceeding two minutes in length – highlighting your favourite local dish. Your video should delve into the cultural context and fascinating history behind your chosen dish. We encourage visually appealing and creatively presented submissions to capture the audience's attention!
Whether you're a professional videographer, vlogger, chef, or passionate foodie, this challenge is your chance to share your unique story.
Important dates:
- Video Submission Deadline: 8 October 2025
- Results Announcement: 16 October 2025 (on World Food Day!)
Why participate?
- By sharing your favourite foods and their stories, you will contribute to a global tapestry of food traditions, fostering cultural understanding and appreciation.
- This challenge also offers a fantastic opportunity to enhance your digital literacy by developing skills in video production, editing, and storytelling.
This challenge is open to individuals aged 18 and above.
Prizes and recognition:
- Winner (Non-members): A complimentary annual digital library membership.
- Winner (Members): A complimentary annual digital library membership renewal.
- All Participants: A certificate of participation and a freemium membership.
Submission guidelines:
- Videos must be in digital format (MP4 or MOV) and not exceed 2 minutes.
- Submit your videos via WeTransfer to [insert your library’s email ID] or email the file directly to [insert your library’s email ID].
- Please name your video file: "Your Name - Global Bites: A Culinary Journey."
- Should your video file size exceed email attachment limits, please email your video as a ZIP file.
- All participants will be required to sign the consent forms for upload and display of the video on the British Council Digital Library platform.
- Participants should ensure that their videos comply with local copyright laws and regulations. By participating in this challenge, participants agree to grant the British Council non-exclusive rights to share their videos on social media and other platforms.
- Entries must be original creations only.
- Entries will be judged by the British Council. All decisions are final. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that is deemed inappropriate or does not conform to stated contest rules.
- Submissions will not be accepted once the deadline lapses.
- The prize must be collected by the winner and is nontransferable.
- The winner will be contacted via the email address provided during registration.
