Role overview
About the project
This transformative 54-month programme, jointly co-financed by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ and the British Council, is designed to advance inclusive socio-economic development in Pakistan. By equipping individuals with future-ready skills and strengthening links between training and industry demand, the programme will help build a skilled workforce capable of driving sustainable economic growth.
As lead partner for Component 4, the British Council is managing a €10 million investment focused on expanding opportunities for women in digital and high-tech sectors. The initiative seeks to strengthen Pakistan’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system by creating more inclusive, high-quality learning pathways that support access to higher education, skills development, and meaningful employment for women, including refugees, returnees, and persons with disabilities.
Implemented across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, the project is introducing competency-based training and assessment (CBT&A) programmes in fields like Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and Data Science and Analytics. Developed in close collaboration with industry, these programmes seek to ensure graduates are equipped for the evolving demands of the modern workforce.
A key feature of the initiative is the establishment of two state-of-the-art Centres of Excellence (CoEs) dedicated to digital and high-tech skills. These centres aim to deliver industry-aligned training, strengthen institutional capacity through teacher development and internationally accredited programmes, and foster sustainable public-private partnerships that connect graduates to employment opportunities. With a strong commitment to inclusion, the project prioritises participation from women and girls, persons with disabilities, migrants, returnees, and refugee communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in Pakistan’s digital future.
About the role
