This one-hour digital workshop via Zoom is designed to equip participants with essential skills for crafting compelling and effective essays.

Workshop Objectives:

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand Essay Structure: Grasp the fundamental components of a well-organized essay, including introductions, body paragraphs, and conclusions.
  • Develop Strong Thesis Statements: Learn how to formulate clear, concise, and arguable thesis statements that provide a roadmap for their essays.
  • Construct Coherent Arguments: Discover strategies for developing and presenting logical arguments supported by evidence.
  • Enhance Writing Style: Identify techniques to improve clarity, conciseness, and overall readability in their essay writing.
  • Avoid Common Pitfalls: Recognize and address frequent errors in essay writing, such as plagiarism, weak evidence, and poor transitions.

What Participants Will Learn:

Participants will gain practical knowledge and actionable strategies to immediately improve their essay writing skills, specifically focusing on:

  • Deconstructing the Prompt: How to effectively analyze essay prompts to understand expectations and identify key themes.
  • Brainstorming & Outlining: Efficient methods for generating ideas and structuring their thoughts before writing.
  • Crafting Engaging Introductions: Techniques for hooking readers and effectively presenting their thesis.
  • Building Persuasive Body Paragraphs: Strategies for developing topic sentences, integrating evidence, and providing insightful analysis.
  • Writing Powerful Conclusions: Methods for summarizing arguments and leaving a lasting impression on the reader.
  • Refining and Polishing: Tips for self-editing and proofreading to enhance the overall quality of their essays.

E-Certificates for Active Participation:

E-certificates will be awarded to all participants who actively engage throughout the workshop. We encourage questions, participation in discussions, and interaction with the workshop content to maximize your learning experience.

About the facilitator:

Shamim Sheikh is an English language trainer with nearly five years of experience working with learners of all ages. Holding degrees in fine arts, engineering, and a CELTA from the University of Cambridge, Shamim has a strong passion for corporate training and has successfully led various projects with the British Council in addition to delivering trainings as a communicative English trainer.
