Education UK Alumni Awards – Pakistan Finalists

About the Awards

The Education UK Alumni Awards will recognise and honour the outstanding achievements made by alumni of a UK education.   

Award Recipients will be able to clearly demonstrate how living and studying at a UK Higher Education Institution (in the UK or at an overseas branch campus) has contributed to the meaningful impact that they have had in their communities, industries and countries.

Here are the finalists:

Professional Achievement Award

Jahanzeb Awan - Winner

Jahanzeb studied Law at the University of Sheffield. After being called to the Bar by the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, Jahanzeb became a Partner at one of Pakistan’s leading law firms, providing litigation and advisory services to high profile clients including the State Bank of Pakistan. Jahanzeb believes his time spent studying in the UK was the most defining period of his life. 

Abdul Matin 

Abdul studied Medical Microbiology at Birkbeck, University of London. After graduating, he established the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Haripur and has published more than 30 biomedical research articles. Abdul appreciates his studies at Birkbeck for providing him with real insights within the field of infectious diseases.

Henna Saeed

Henna studied Filmmaking at Manchester Metropolitan University. As a freelance producer, she has worked with international news channels including CNN and Al-Jazeera and teaches television, news and film production at university. Her UK education inspired her to become a role model for her students and to make an impact within the international media.

Maria Saiffudin Effendi

Maria studied Conflict Resolution at the University of Bradford. She went on to teach Peace and Conflict Studies at the National Defence University in Islamabad and was invited by the US Department of Defence to teach high-profile diplomats. Maria’s UK study experience helped her become more forward-looking and open to innovative ideas.

Entrepreneurial Award

Qurat ul ain Ansari

Qurat studied International Business and Management at the University of Manchester. After graduating she founded the women’s footwear brand CHAPTER 13, a sustainable business that employs local artisans. Qurat used the opportunity to study in the UK to broaden her vision and gain the self-confidence to start her own company.

Bilal Majeed Khan - Winner

Bilal studied Mechanical Engineering Design at the University of Manchester. As CEO and Product Architect at engineering and design firm BMKDesign, he provides a range of innovative design and engineering expertise, and aims to uncover hidden talent by providing opportunities to local people. Studying in the UK helped Bilal broaden his technical knowledge and inspired his drive to develop sustainable solutions to problems. 

Ifran Weldon

Ifran studied Corporate Communications and Reputation Management at the University of Manchester. He is now Account Director at marketing agency Brand Stallion, where he helps international clients with digital marketing. The University of Manchester’s philosophy of learning by doing gave Ifran the confidence to build a global agency from scratch.

Dr. Nousheen Zakaria

Nousheen earned her PhD in Strategic HRM at the University of Leeds, after gaining her MSc in Management at the University of Sheffield. As Co-Founder and CEO of Out of the Box Ltd, U.K and The Code It Company, Pakistan, she is responsible for releasing some of the newest and most innovative apps and websites to support the local industry as well as global clients. She provides equal-employment opportunities to people with special needs. Nousheen’s UK study experience enhanced her critical thinking skills and transformed and has helped her be the entrepreneur that she is today.

Social Impact Award

Fiza Farhan - Winner

Fiza studied for an MSc in Management at the University of Warwick. As CEO of the Buksh Foundation, Director of Buksh Energy Pvt. Ltd, and Pakistan’s representative on a high-level UN Panel, Fiza strives to provide solutions to national and international challenges. Fiza’s UK studies instigated her entrepreneurial spirit, confidence and persistent nature.

Naveed Muzaffar Khan

Naveed studied Law at Cardiff University. As a Barrister at the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, Naveed advocates for legal measures to combat violent acid attacks in Pakistan. His draft legislation has been approved as a bill by Pakistan’s National Assembly. His UK studies equipped him with invaluable development sector knowledge.


Shazia Qureshi

Shazia studied Human Rights Law at Lancaster University. After being appointed as Punjab University Law College’s first female lecturer, she later became the college’s first female Principal and developed Pakistan’s inaugural five-year Bachelor of Laws programme. Shazia’s UK studies supported her to continue to advocate for the rights of women, low-paid workers and minority groups.
