I’m very pleased to welcome you to the British Council Pakistan website.
The new site allows easier navigation, a more attractive web design and a flexible platform that allows easy and quick viewing on your mobile device or desktop.
The British Council has been working in Pakistan since 1948. We work in Arts, Education, English and Exams. Across the four provinces as well as in Pakistan Administered Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan we continue to build connections between Pakistan and the UK. Our offices in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad act as hubs to a network of partnerships.
We are investing more in Pakistan, scaling up our work in English, Arts and Education and producing more research. We have a commitment to producing six core pieces of research each year from the Next Generation goes to the Ballot Box to Mapping the Creative Industries in Pakistan.
Our aim is work with partners and communities to build sustainable relationships. Recently we launched the Punjab Education and English Language Initiative (also called PEELI), working with the Government of Punjab to improve English Language teaching skills amongst 300,000 teachers in schools in Punjab. We are also discussing similar programmes in Sindh and KPK. We have announced a partnership with the Qatar Foundation to get more children back into school in Pakistan and have signed an agreement with KPK to develop work in Education. Working with our partners in Arts we are also seeking to expand our activity here as well, so look for much more in terms of Arts and performance, both here and in the UK.
Young people are a focus of our work and through our Active Citizens and DOSTI projects since 2009 we have mobilised more than 40,000 young people for social good and community development under Active Citizens Programme. We’re also very excited about our plans to increase engagement with you through the launch of our Library in Lahore and The Space in Karachi- an integrated Arts and Learning environment. Our aim is provide a 21C library and learning environment for Pakistani’s and a programme of activity throughout the year.
This website is your resource for everything you wanted to know about British Council Pakistan and for the events, activities and plans. We hope you find it useful and we look forward to seeing you at our events and on line.
